Career Path for Health Care Assistants

We acknowledge the significant contribution of Health Care Assistants to our Patients and place emphasis on ensuring our Health Care Assistants receive in depth training and career opportunities 

1. HCA Development Programme 

Health Care Assistants attend four full days of practical learning on the following subjects:

Session 1: Patient At Risk, How Can We Tell?

Session 2: Respiration

Session 3: Nutrition and Elimination

Session 4: Tissue Viability, Reporting and Documentation

*Session 1 is completed as an annual refresher by all Health Care Assistants 

2. Lead Adult Care Worker NVQ Level 3 

Health Care Assistants wishing to progress to a senior role can apply to complete the Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 apprenticeship. Five of our Health Care Assistants have completed this qualification with us and we have enrolled the group for 2023

3. Trainee Nursing Associate 

Senior Health Care Assistants are invited to apply to complete the foundation degree as an apprenticeship. This involves two years of study with our partner University, one day a week in the classroom and two six week blocks of placements at other hospitals each year.

Our first two Senior Health Care Assistants started as Trainee Nursing Associates in February 2023. They will qualify as NMC registered Nurse Associates in 2025
